Catching Micro Expressions of Emotions

In under three hours, you can learn to recognize very brief facial expression of emotion. Such micro expressions reveal either deliberately concealed emotions or repressed emotions that the person who shows them is unaware of experiencing. Paul Ekman has been studying the facial expression of emotion for forty years and this workshop presents his group training program as described in Emotions Revealed (2004) and Destructive Emotions (Goleman, 2003).

Often we are distracted by other sources – the words spoken, the sound of the voice, the gestures, and our own thoughts about what we need to say next. With the training in Micro Expression Training, we will spot emotional expressions of the seven basic affects without having to think about them. This skill is obviously useful for counsellors and therapists and is also being taught to law enforcement personnel. The use of such a training module will also be useful for clients with social skills deficits who are not decoding others’emotional expressions appropriately.
